Intramural Sports
Intramural sports is a great way to keep active, make some friends, and have some fun while at UBCO. Several different sport and league options are available, ranging from recreational/just for fun to competitive options. Leagues have options for individual registration, so even if you haven’t been able to round up a team of your own yet – no worries. See each sport and league listed below for details.
General Information
- Only currently enrolled UBC students are eligible to participate in intramural sports due to demand.
- Limited team spots are available – register early. Not all teams/individuals who enter are guaranteed registration.
- Students are permitted to register in multiple sports but only in one competitive division of any given sport. Ex. One cannot participate in competitive and recreational basketball during the same season of play.
- Most leagues have a minimum number of self-identified non-males required to be on the playing surface during play. Please view the intramural rule book for more details.
- There are three competition levels:
- Competitive Leagues – This league is designed for those wanting to compete and play in a competitive and fun atmosphere. Games are officiated and teams are eligible for playoffs with the chances of winning a championship t-shirt.
- Intermediate Leagues – This league is meant for those comfortable in a sport, wanting to develop their skills outside of the highly competitive atmosphere. Leagues are officiated and will also have a play-off structure, with the chance of winning championship t-shirts.
- Recreational Leagues – This league is made for those wanting to try something new or want to have fun playing their sport outside of a competitive atmosphere. Leagues are officiated and will also have a play-off structure, with the chance of winning championship t-shirts.

Here you can find some commonly asked questions about Intramurals:
Q: What is the cost of entering intramurals?
A: It costs CAD 15 to enter yourself into intramurals. You sign up individually, instead of signing up the whole team.
Q: What does this cost cover?
A: The CAD 15 only covers registration for ONE individual in ONE sport league.
Q: Who can join intramurals?
A: Only currently enrolled UBCO STUDENTS can participate in intramurals.
Q: Which sports are available to play for intramurals?
A: We offer a variety of indoor and outdoor sport.
- Nonis Field: Outdoor Soccer, Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee.
- Commons Field: Outdoor Soccer, Spikeball, Cornhole, Grass Volleyball.
- Gym: Basketball, Volleyball, Futsal, Dodgeball.
- Outdoor Beach Volleyball Courts: Beach Volleyball.
Q: Can I join multiple teams?
A: You can join multiple teams across sports. However, you can’t join multiple teams across the leagues for the same sport. For instance, in the case of basketball:
- You CANNOT join two separate teams in competitive basketball.
- You CANNOT join a team in competitive basketball and a team in intermediate basketball.
- You CAN join a team in competitive basketball and recreational soccer.
Q: Can I join a team even though multiple weeks have passed since intramurals began?
A: Yes. Regardless of whether you are joining a team or joining as an individual, you can still join weeks after intramurals have begun. However, you need to have played at least two league games to be eligible for the playoffs. So, even though you could join in the last week of intramurals, you would not be allowed to participate in the playoffs if your team made it.
Q: Do I need to bring my ID to every single game?
A: You need to show your ID to the staff just ONCE during the intramural season. Once you’ve verified your ID, you do not need to bring it every single week of play.
Q: Where can I find my team’s schedule?
A: You can find your rosters, schedules, and standing online by accessing ActiveNet through the Intramural Sports page on UBCO Recreation. You can also find them here.
Once on the ActiveNet Page, just choose your sport, specific league, and you can access all the necessary details.
Q: Are intramurals cancelled for holidays?
A: Intramurals are cancelled on most BC statutory holidays. For the 2024/25 season: the following are important date(s):
- October 13th and 14th / Thanksgiving
Q: Can I change my team and/or sport?
A: Yes, you can change your team/sport at any point in the season (based on valid reasons, of course). If you are being added to a team much later, just make sure you meet the minimum requirement of games played to qualify for play-offs. For changes, email camprec.intramurals@ubc.ca.
Q: Can I get a refund on my intramural registration?
A: Only for medical reasons, please email camprec.intramurals@ubc.ca for refunds.
Still can’t find an answer to your question? Email camprec.intramurals@ubc.ca
