Beach Volleyball Courts

The outdoor volleyball courts are available for casual drop-in use to the UBCO Community (UBCO students or staff/faculty only) unless there is a booking on the schedule below.

The outdoor volleyball courts are CLOSED for the winter and will reopen in the Spring.

Features

  • Two full-size courts
  • Located northwest of the Hangar Fitness Centre, next to the Creative & Critical Studies building
  • Bookings available, but also open for drop-in use when not pre-booked

Outdoor Fitness loop

The outdoor fitness loop is available for casual drop-in use to the UBCO Community.

Features

  • Located between Nonis Field and the Administration Building.
  • Outdoor fitness circuit with seven different exercise stations featuring multiple workout suggestions. The seven exercise options consist of a warm up, parallel bars, tree stumps, low bars, hill climb, high bars, and platform stations.

Commons Field

Commons Field is available for casual drop-in use to the UBCO Community.

Features

  • The Commons Field is a large grass area between Nechako and Purcell residence buildings.
  • It is an ideal location for drop in outdoor sports and activities. Sport ball rental available at the Customer Service desk in the Gymnasium.
  • Two soccer goals are located on the field for drop in soccer.
  • Field lights are available.

Slackline Posts

Slackline posts are available for casual drop-in use to the UBCO Community.

Features

  • Four posts available for attachment of slacklines. Please do not attach slacklines to the trees in this area.
  • Located at the south west corner of Commons Field, near Nechako Residence Building.

A slackline is a thin (1″-3″) flexible strip of nylon webbing anchored between two points, typically trees or posts, that you walk across. It’s similar to a tightrope but more forgiving and dynamic. To use a slackline, first set it up at a comfortable height just above hip level (~3′) and ensure it is well tightened. Start by standing in the center, using your arms for balance, and take small, deliberate steps forward. Feel free to use a spotter or a stick to support you while you are getting the hang of it. The goal is to improve your balance and core strength.

Slackline rentals are available with the Varsity Outdoors Club Okanagan (VOCO).


campus trails

Campus Trails are available for casual drop-in use to the UBCO Community.

Features

Pine Loop

A 1.7 km that goes through the woods of the western part of campus. This rugged trail allows access to Quail Ridge, and links to other trails surrounding Robert Lake. The Pine Loop trail is great for an afternoon stroll in the woods or for some bird watching.

Snowberry Loop

1.55 km in length, this paved path connects the Engineering, Management and Education (EME) building and other campus buildings together. It also gives spectacular views of the country community Ellison across the valley. Good way to stretch your legs, clear your mind and enjoy the beautiful surrounding landscape.

The Old Pond Trail

The Old Pond Trail is a great quick break from campus. Just under 1 km, this loop around the Pond allows walkers to be immersed in a forest setting, while staying near the campus core. Along this trail are the Learning Garden, University House, and Fire Pit.

Juniper Trail

This 1 km trail serves as a connection between the Snowberry Loop and the Pine Trail. The Juniper trail links the Okanagan campus to Aberdeen Hall, and is becoming utilized more as the development grows.
