Whether you’re looking to start using the weight room or update your existing fitness routine, our personal trainers provide personalized support tailored to your personal goals and abilities, including an orientation of our fitness facilities and a personal fitness program developed just for you.

In addition to services provided by our Certified Personal Trainers, we also offer complimentary virtual workout programs and free orientations to the Hangar Fitness Centre.

 

discounted personal training (limited time offer)

For a limited time, personal training sessions are being offered at a discounted rate to the UBCO community by upper year Health & Exercise Science practicum students, working under the direct supervision of our Clinical Exercise Physiologists on staff.

Start-up packages (FREE)

Meet with a Health & Exercise Sciences practicum student to learn the basics of an exercise routine. Includes an initial interview, assessment, goal setting, health screen and two personal training sessions.

After you’ve completed your start-up package, purchase additional sessions with your trainer for ongoing guidance, instruction and motivation to help you continue to advance your personal fitness goals. Continuing personal training sessions with HES practicum students are offered at a discounted rate.

Start-up packages

Start your fitness journey by meeting with one of our Certified Personal Trainers to discuss your goals, complete a start up assessment, and complete two initial training sessions. From there you can work with your trainer to discuss the best path forward for you.

Missed session policy

If you are unable to make a scheduled session with your Personal Trainer, notify your trainer directly or call the Recreation Customer Service Desk at 250 807 9200 at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled session. If you do not notify either your trainer or UBC Recreation at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled session, you will be charged for the scheduled session.

Complimentary Hangar Fitness Centre Orientations

New to fitness, new to campus, or just looking for some guidance? Sign up for a free fitness centre orientation today.

  • Meet with an experienced and educated staff member who will show you what to expect of your fitness routine at The Hangar including the functionality of the equipment and basic gym etiquette.
  • Orientations will be approximately 30 minutes in length.
  • Sign up for an orientation and someone will be in touch with you within three business days.

Orientations are intended to show users the equipment, how to generally use it, and to answer basic questions about the facility. Orientations should not be used for those looking for guidance on specific exercises or fitness routines. If this is what you’re looking for, refer to our personal training options.

Hangar orientation

Free Virtual Workout Program

This workout focuses on major muscle groups and common movement patterns in day-to-day life, making it an exceptional functional training program.

The program is very user-friendly and provides modifications to adapt the program to an appropriate level of difficulty. Follow along with demonstration videos that guide you through each exercise to ensure you are using correct form while completing the workout.

Workout Program

Certified Training staff

Richard relocated to Kelowna from Toronto, where he ran his own personal training business.  He became a certified personal trainer with both CanFit Pro and NSCA (National Strength Conditioning Association) designations.  Originally training people in Muay Thai and Boxing, Richard transitioned to strength training and since has worked with a wide range of clients.  These include clients of varying ages, physical abilities and constraints due to injury or health issues.  He’s passionate about fitness and loves the challenges that each new client brings.
