Code of Conduct

• Treat all participants, staff, officials, and spectators with dignity and respect.
• Refrain from harassment, discrimination, bullying, or threatening behaviour in any form.
• Celebrate diversity and support an inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, and perspectives.
• Abide by the Respectful Environment Statement and other UBC policies.
• Contribute to a welcoming, supportive community for all participants, staff, officials, and spectators.

• Follow all facility rules and etiquette, program guidelines, and instructions from staff, instructors, and coaches.
• Use equipment and spaces responsibly and safely.
• Refrain from behaviours that could endanger yourself or others.
• Participants must refrain from participating in Athletics & Recreation programs or use facilities while under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or other substances that may impair judgment or safety.
• Respect personal boundaries and obtain consent before physical contact, instruction, or assistance, except where safety requires immediate action.
• Report unsafe conditions, injuries, or concerns to staff immediately.

• Demonstrate honesty, fairness, and good sportsmanship at all times.
• Compete and participate ethically, without cheating or seeking unfair advantage.
• Respect officials’ decisions and engage in constructive, calm communication.

• Support a positive environment that encourages physical, mental, and social well-being.
• Follow health and safety protocols, including those related to injury prevention and facility access.
• Avoid disruptive or aggressive behaviour that negatively affects others’ ability to enjoy the space.

• Keep facilities clean, organized, and free of damage.
• Return equipment to designated areas after use.
• Use personal items and shared spaces in a way that respects others’ comfort and safety.

• Engage respectfully in online platforms connected to UBCO Athletics and Recreation.
• Avoid posting harmful, discriminatory, or disrespectful content.
• Protect the privacy and well-being of others in all digital communications.

• Violations of this Code may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of facility access, removal from programs, or referral under university policies.
• Participants are expected to cooperate with staff and follow processes for investigation and resolution.

• UBCO Athletics and Recreation encourages feedback to improve the safety, inclusiveness, and quality of our programs and facilities.
• All members of our community share responsibility for fostering a respectful and thriving environment.
• UBCO Athletics & Recreation is committed to accessibility. Participants are encouraged to communicate accommodation needs to staff so we can support safe and meaningful participation.

The UBC Okanagan Athletics & Recreation Code of Conduct outlines expectations for all participants, including students, staff, coaches, officials, volunteers, and visitors. Our goal is to promote a positive, inclusive, safe, and respectful environment in all programs, facilities, events, and online spaces connected to UBCO Athletics & Recreation.
